For me the drop periods are longer, and the network manager did notice.
I finally disabled the network manager and went into a bare fluxbox
desktop to have full control. Under heavy load it does drop. I'll try
the mentioned kernel.

Quite odd as I had no problems with previous ubuntu releases. I wonder
if I should roll back to one. I picked up an Asus EEEPC 1005HA for the
compatibility under Linux, so this is quite disappointing.
