Looks like this was something specific to my system: I had two console- kit-daemon executables, one in /usr/local/sbin and one in /usr/sbin. I removed the one in /usr/local (together with ck-list-sessions etc) and now things are almost working.
However, console-kit-daemon does not start on boot. I found some error messages in /var/log/:0-slave.log: gdm-simple-slave[916]: WARNING: Unable to open session: Cannot launch daemon, file not found or permissions invalid gdm-simple-slave[916]: WARNING: unable to determine if seat can activate sessions: Cannot launch daemon, file not found or permissions invalid which I suspect are related. I can start console-kit-daemon myself (with sudo) in the terminal, though. I will reinstall gdm and gdm-session-bin to see whether that fixed the problem... -- [Karmic] Shutdown/restart from gnome menu does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/501294 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
