Don't know if this is related, but I have a similar problem with a
samsung writemaster dvdrw connected through USB.

Everything seems fine but as soon as I put in a CD-ROM the CD-Drive
symbol vanishes from the File Browser.

I could manually mount sr0, though. Still no CD-ROM Icon in the File
Browser :-(
