Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and help to improve
Ubuntu.
Is this issue reproducible across multiple reboots? Is it reproducible
if you manually run plymouth after boot? To test: log out of X; press
Ctrl+Alt+F1 to switch to a console log in; log in; then run these
commands:
sudo -s
stop gdm
plymouthd --mode=boot
plymouth --show-splash ; plymouth message --text="Some test text"
Hopefully, you get a splash screen at this point; then hit Ctrl+Alt+F1
again and type:
plymouth quit
start gdm
to restart gdm and log back in.
If plymouth died again with a segfault, you should get a pop-up on your
panel that you can click on to submit a crash report.
