UPDATE: During a reboot, I dropped into the terminal from GRUB and did an update/upgrade. The result was a load of changes (300+). On the reboot, I got the following warning after about 30 seconds on the desktop:
"Sorry, the program apport-gpu-error-intel.py closed unexpectedly."
