I have succeeded in writing a patch using diff but realised afterwards
that I had done it on the already patched ubuntu linux-source package
from the repositories. I don't know but I think I should have done it to
the pristine kernel sources so that the patch can be added to the ubuntu
kernel patches. Could someone advise me on this?

I also tried the feisty kernel (only the kernel - used everything else
from edgy) from herd 4 and the bug still exists. I tried recompiling the
feisty kernel with my hostap_cs patch but booting with the card inserted
hard locked the machine similar to the edgy kernel so I tried inserting
the card after booting and logging in but this also hard locked the
machine. I also tried single boot mode to the same effect. I am
wondering whether it is something to do with the new upstart init system
or a kernel IRQ allocation problem. Any ideas anyone?
