I just tried to reproduce this with a current daily build (albeit server
on i386 because that's what I had handy, but I don't think it should
matter), and everything seemed to work fine with reiserfs on /.
Although I'm not specifically aware of having fixed this problem, it's
possible that we fixed it in the process of dealing with something else.
Would it be possible for you to test a current daily build to see if it
behaves better for you? http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/
If it still goes wrong and you have problems transcribing error
messages, then in extremis I can usually deal with photos of the screen.
