Found the bug today - but obviously someone was faster. After the using the in-installer update, it works fine.
To me it looks like the problem was contained in the ubi-console- setup.py script, where the variable self.current_layout was not set when using keyboard-guessing. This seems to be fixed now, likely because the patch from the mentioned bug was released now. Thanks for your help, Monkey.
