Hi Richard,

There is a possible fix for this problem in the newly released
2.6.34-rc3 linux kernel. From the changelog:

Daniel Chen (1):
      ALSA: ac97: Add Toshiba P500 to ac97 jack sense blacklist

There should soon be a PPA of this kernel RC at http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ however if you are not experienced you should
probably wait for the 2.6.34 final.

** Changed in: alsa-driver (Ubuntu)
       Status: Incomplete => New
