Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since
this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work,
I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here.
I can confirm this issue in xubuntu Lucid 386. I have two systems
running Lucid, one is a 386 and the other is a 64bit athlon. The 64bit
installation does give me a notification of updates available. the 386
installation does not give the notifications.
