Thank you for opening this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. I am
unsure about this specific patch: I cannot find it being applied to GIT
upstream, and -- per the ML -- discussions on this patch stopped without
a final decision, still on 2007 (with the comment that 'cp
--sparse=always' would do something similar).
Can you point me to where the coreutils maintainers were asking for it
to be applied?
