I've had this problem for quite a while... I'm running Ubuntu netbook remix 9.10 with the default NetworkManager and OpenVPN plugin. Around 30% of connection attempts 'work' and about 70% fail exactly as described in this bug report. As far as I can tell, every setting is identical when the VPN works as when it fails... however, anecdotally, it seems that once it's failed once, it will fail again if tried immediately. Going for a cup-of-tea usually gives a fresh chance of it working - as does disconnecting and reconnecting to the Wireless network... annoyingly, running tail in /var/log also seems to change fortunes.
The issue, to me, seems to be one of a timeout or similar. I access my VPN locally and remotely - only over WiFi. My server is a vanilla openvpn install on Gentoo. My certificates do not have passwords - others, elsewhere, suggest that giving their certificates passwords sometimes helps... this also hints at a timing issue. Incidentally, "Connect automatically" doesn't seem to work either... if my VPN connected automatically, it would be less frustrating if it took several attempts. -- openvpn 'The VPN connection failed because the VPN service failed to start' error while connecting using nm-applet https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/530402 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
