Laptop ? No, it's a desktop machine. I just ran dpkg-reconfigure. By default it selected the 'vesa' driver. Once I selected the 'nv' driver by hand, obviously it worked, except that it didn't ask me the timings of my monitor, so I had to edit xorg.conf by hand anyway.
