I agree - the mono weather icons look ugly in avant window manager, too. (I also think they look ugly in gnome-panel. I would argue that weather icons are the one thing in gnome-panel that _should_ be in colour because a black sun looks awful but a yellow sun looks great, but I guess that's a different issue.)
