Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: software-center
Appending to my previous report. on closer inspection I found that
trying to open the link: System, in software-center, Ubuntu 10.04-LTS,
this caused the program to stop responding. I found that all the other
features of the program functioned and I found that I could access the
system programs with the search tool, albeit that the input is very slow
in the search box. So in this way I found a solution to the other
problem of the inoperable synaptic package manager in
Applications/System Tools/. I accessed package-manager in software
center with the search tool, uninstalled, reinstalled; then you have to
reinstall update-manager. So we are left with the problem of the buggy
(system) link, and slow input in the search pane, in software-center. I
completed a successful install on the old Asus 600 mhz although bootup
is slower than 9.10. That reminds me: when booting 9.10, by pressing
esc you got a boot menu listing troubleshooting options - this does not
seem to be the case with 10.04.
