Deven, we should probably switch this discussion to the other bug. But yes it is a non-trivial workaround that requires blindly typing the user's password, starting a terminal and then running the xgamma command - hence the suggestion to use a keyboard shortcut; but it's still better than restarting gdm or rebooting.
