I'm having the same issue, also after an upgrade from v2 to v3 then trying to downgrade back to v2. Having found v3 to still have a few bugs I'm trying to go back to v2. I had the mozilla daily PPA enabled to get the newer version. I disabled the PPA and remove thunderbird-3.0 package, reinstalled normal thunderbird package. Now it segfaults. When I re-enable the mozilla daily PPA I can't install both side-by-side, as suggested, because now the daily PPA uses version 3.0.5 to replace the regular thunderbird, rather than keeping them as separate packages (which is a strange change, as it was always separate before). Any ideas? I'm kind of stuck, any help very much appreciated.
