Does the command
lpinfo -v
list your printer? With which URIs? parallel:/..., hp:/...?
what is the output of
lsmod | egrep 'parport|ppdev|lp'
Run the following commands if needed:
modprobe lp
modprobe parport
modprobe parport_pc
modprobe ppdev
What is the output of
ls -l /dev/lp*
