This command does return an auto-generated generic PPD file instead of
the HP ready-made PPD file on my up to date feisty system.
$ cat /usr/share/foomatic/db/source/printer/HP-LaserJet_4250.xml | grep ppd
<ppd>PPD/HP/mono_laser/HP_LaserJet_4250.ppd</ppd>
$ ls /usr/share/foomatic/db/source/PPD/HP/mono_laser/HP_LaserJet_4250.ppd.*
ls: No such file or directory
The directory mono_laser does not exist on my system! I only have the
file /usr/share/foomatic/db/source/PPD/HP/HP_LaserJet_4250.ppd.gz
Editing /usr/share/foomatic/db/source/printer/HP-LaserJet_4250.xml
and change
<ppd>PPD/HP/mono_laser/HP_LaserJet_4250.ppd</ppd>
into
<ppd>PPD/HP/HP_LaserJet_4250.ppd</ppd>
makes foomatic-ppdfile generate the HP ready-made PPD file!
Lots of other printer models suffer from this problem too.
