I added
Option         "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"

to my xorg.conf file. No improvement but there was a change though.
compiz --replace --debug & gives out this debug:

(gtk-window-decorator:1774): metacity-CRITICAL **:
meta_frame_style_draw_with_style: assertion `style_gtk->colormap ==
gdk_drawable_get_colormap (drawable)' failed

(gtk-window-decorator:1774): Gdk-WARNING **: Using Cairo rendering requires the
drawable argument to
have a specified colormap. All windows have a colormap,
however, pixmaps only have colormap by default if they
were created with a non-NULL window argument. Otherwise
a colormap must be set on them with gdk_drawable_set_colormap

This keeps on repeating between the CRITICAL part and the WARNING part
