I'm sorry to hear that you're having problems. ureadahead is certainly
supposed to speed up your boot, especially on HDD which is what it's
optimised for (not SSD)
Could you do the following for me, this will allow me to get an idea of
where the problem might be and suggest further tests:
1. install the bootchart package
2. remove any "pack" files under /var/lib/ureadahead, move the
/etc/init/ureadahead.conf file to /etc/init/ureadahead.conf.disabled (or
leave it disabled as you already have)
3. reboot your machine; this will be a "no ureadahead run" - login as
normal, etc. then wait a couple of minutes
4. run "status bootchart" to make sure it's in "stop/waiting"
5. re-enable ureadahead again
6. reboot your machine; this will be a "profile run" - again login as
normal and wait a couple of minutes
7. run "status ureadahead" and "status bootchart" to make sure that
both are in "stop/waiting"
8. reboot your machine again; this will be a run with ureadahead -
login as normal, wait a couple of minutes
9. run "status ureadahead" and "status bootchart" to make sure that
both are in "stop/waiting"
10. attach the new files you find in /var/log/bootchart to this bug
11. attach the output of "sudo ureadahead --dump" to this bug
Thanks!
