Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xubuntu-default-settings

This concerns xubuntu-default-settings 10.04.5 in Ubuntu Lucid beta1.

The proper way of starting a Xubuntu session is by invoking
/usr/share/xubuntu/session.sh. Which is a problem if you use, say, a
less-intelligent display manager like xdm that wants to invoke x
-session-manager instead. With Xfce installed, this goes to
xfce4-session, which starts up a not-so-nice-looking non-Xubuntu Xfce
session.

(This isn't so much a problem with more modern display managers, because
they either maintain a per-user default session in ~/.dmrc, or their own
configured default. But if you select the "Default" session, you still
get whatever x-session-manager points to.)

Adding session.sh as an alternative for x-session-manager would allow
the administrator to set Xubuntu as the system's *real* default X
session.
