Marking the feature request as rejected, using the keyring should be
possible but as you pointed the thumbnail can be a security issue and
there is no infrastructure at the moment for the thumbnailer to clean
the preview when closing the session. Implementing that would probably
not be trivial and the distribution team and upstream will probably not
come to that any time soon according to the ration between efforts and
the little cosmetic win
