Hi I also gave up and run a fresh install to Xubuntu 9.10 where sound returned. I have still concerns that in such cases where you accept an upgrade from Live Update you can be left with a dead system with little troubleshooting steps available.

Status in "alsa-driver" package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I suspect that this is a duplicate of another bug listed, but it wasn't obvious to me which one, hence posting as new. I did a clean install of Intrepid, updated all, rebooted, upgraded to Jaunty (keeping old kernel image, or else my system wouldn't work at all), updated all and finally upgraded to Karmic. Had sound in Intrepid and after Jaunty updates, but no sound at all in Karmic. Ran System Testing: Detecting your sound device(s): 0 [U0x46d0x9a1 ]: USB-Audio - USB Device 0x46d:0x9a1 USB Device 0x46d:0x9a1 at usb-0000:00:10.4-3.3, high speed 1 [default ]: USB-Audio - USB Audio CODEC Burr-Brown from TI USB Audio CODEC at usb-0000:00:10.0-2, full s 2 [default_1 ]: USB-Audio - Samson C01U Samson Technologies Samson C01U at usb-0000:00:10.4-3.4.3, 3 [VT82xx ]: HDA-Intel - HDA VIA VT82xx HDA VIA VT82xx at 0xbfffc000 irq 17 Everything "appears" to work - when I speak into the mic the levels bars move, but no sound emits from my system. Any help or advice would be much appreciated, especially if it comes prior to kick-off at Anfield today :-p And once again, apologies if I've created morer work by posting a duplicate.
