Binary package hint: pulseaudio
The problem for me is notorious for anything involving the totem movie
both as the standalone player, and the embedded player in Firefox.
Rhythmbox will also get touched by this issue on occasion, but it is
mostly anything involving the totem movie player. I open the sound
preferences, and see that the volume level for the application is not
muted, but set all the way at the minimum, so I will move the slider so
the application has volume, and it will reset the volume back to 0 as
soon as I close the sound preferences menu.
