I tried manually reverting the font size, with no effect. I cannot use the live session CD as it is a netbook, without a CD drive. :(
I can confirm that the 2d launcher (when selected from GDM) works fine. FYI - this system was upgraded from Karmic, in the normal way - it is not a fresh install. Would a screenshot help?
