Ubuntu 6.10-desktop-i386 with latest updates as of March 18, 2007.
Motherboard is Asus M2NPV-VM
CPU is AMD Athlon 64 3500+
Samsung HD160JJ SATA hard drive
Running any X application is very slow. This is true whether it is being run
from a desktop icon, a menu
or GNOME Terminal. It take 10-20 seconds to start even the smallest program.
Running non-X applications
is very fast.
I had previously installed 6.06 .1-desktop-AMD64 on the same hardware
and did not see this problem.
