Binary package hint: upstart
When i have an unclean exit from ubuntu 10.04, beta 1 or 2, eg, through
running out of battery, my computer is forced to go through fsck, to
check the disk. It gets to 70%, then goes extremely slowly, or stops.
Pressing "C" to cancel does not work. "Escape" blanks the screen, Escape
again goes back to the waiting screen. My computer is an eeepc, model
701. Because it is a flash disk, not a hard disk drive, i've formated it
as ext2, without a swap file. (in the belief that it reduces writes).
I have solved this by booting into it with a live cd, then using gparted
to check the disk. Then I can relog in without the check being invoked.
This is too much for the user experience, if it is going to happen every
time a ubuntu session is killed ungracefully (on my computer, this is
the case.) I feel there should be more options: it'd be better if I
could just get to the check disk that gparted does as an option when
check disk is forced. I notice that with previous ubuntu editions it
wasnt as hard to get back into ubuntu.
I can see that it is best to check the disk when the exit out of Ubuntu
isnt proper, but at the moment Lucid effectively locks you out, at least
for my setup.
