Description: Ubuntu lucid (development branch)
Release: 10.04

When I first installed 10.04 there was no sound from the M-Audio 2496
card. I followed the instructions suggested by Alexandre Touret in
response to bug #515874 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/asoundconf-gtk/+bug/515874/comments/2). Adding those two lines to
/usr/share/alsa/cards/ICE1712.conf got an analogue stereo output showing
in the PulseAudio Volume Control, and I can now hear sound from my
applications.

However, I cannot seem to get applications to receive audio from the
analogue inputs on the M-Audio card. If I open the Envy24 Control
Utility and go to the "Monitor Inputs" tab, I can see a response on the
meters for H/W In 1 and H/W In 2, and I can verify by panning the
microphone channel on my external mixer that the mixer's left output is
connected to H/W In 1 and the right output to H/W In 2. But the sound
from the card's hardware inputs does not seem to be available to
applications.

I can see no analogue inputs in the PulseAudio Volume Control or
PulseAudio Device Chooser. Do I need to add more lines to
/usr/share/alsa/cards/ICE1712.conf to enable PulseAudio to recognize the
card's inputs? The only input options I see are various digital (IEC958)
inputs.

And does the patch at http://www.mail-archive.com/ubuntu-devel-
disc...@lists.ubuntu.com/msg10824.html offer a more permanent solution?
Is that in the works?
