Well, actually, if you have Visual effects activated you're not running Metacity anymore, but Compiz. If you want to know which Window Manager is supposed to be loaded during start up you can check the content of the gconf setting mentioned earlier. Start gconf-editor and navigate to the setting mentioned. It says compiz (Visual effects activated) or metacity.
Regarding the window freezing it's probably related to this bug, it's probably there that things has gone wrong in the first place. It's this bug report: Bug #554106 I'm not sure why you didn't get any window decorations even though you had the compiz packages installed, because in that case it shouldn't matter what the setting is. As for me, my window decorations didn't show because Compiz was activated in Visual effects, but the packages wasn't installed so Compiz couldn't be loaded. When removing the file under ~/.gconf the settings were reverted back to metacity. You could always leave it open until someone with more knowledge decides that it's a duplicate or not. I'm mostly guessing here :) On the plus side, if it is a duplicate, it's easer for other users who have the same problem to discover the bug report :) -- when i turn on ubuntu 10.04 i cant see window controls, it works when i log out and log in again...its often almost everytime i turn on my computer https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/561271 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
