Got the same problem as #3: latex/pdflatex says "I can't find file
`something.tex'" with the file definitely existing, with proper
permissions - "less something.tex" works fine, and after copying
everything to a local dir pdflatex does not complain anymore either.
In contrast to #3 though, for me, permissions on the file do not matter.
It seems the error occurs with the unix extensions disabled ('nounix'
cifs mount parameter). With unix extensions enabled, everything works
fine. I need symlinks to be resolved on server side though so this is no
option for me.
This definitely looks like a bug recently introduced in cifs.
