1. your issue with characters not getting displayed because of the wrong
encoding being used is really a totally separate issue and probably not even
related to language-slector. Please file a new bug for this and attach some
screenshots.
2. The actual message is also nothing language-selector can do about...
if there are some conflicting packages, it would help to have the exact
message in order to determine which packages are involved.
Can you please test with a clean installation of beta2 with all updates
installed since then?
