My sound card is Realtek ALC861-VD and the laptop is Toshiba satellite A100-784.I installed karmic a few days ago and had no sound at all. After trying a lot of possible workarounds but with no solution, i decided to upgrade to lucid. But still no sound. The 'weird' thing is i suspect that the problem has something to do with the following:
aplay -l **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC861-VD Analog [ALC861-VD Analog] Subdevices: 0/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 6: Si3054 Modem [Si3054 Modem] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 As you can see there is another device that maybe is mistaken for an audio device.
