Kernel-package should not be auto-answering any questions. As far as I
know it uses "oldconfig" which should ask you for any to config options
available. Even if it ran defconfig:
config SND_AC97_POWER_SAVE
bool "AC97 Power-Saving Mode"
depends on SND_AC97_CODEC && EXPERIMENTAL
default n
The default is 'n', so it should not enable it either. Are you sure you
didn't accidentally answer 'y' to this?
