Like I said, it doesn't matter what the HW mixer levels are when PA is installed, I get no sound. Every time I find levels are zeroed and muted, but when I raise and unmute them, it has no effect. However, if I uninstall PA (and also find HW mixer levels zeroed/muted), I raise and unmute and get normal sound. I've already tried to explain this, maybe I wasn't clear enough, hope this is more so...
I could try with Lucid livecd, but it might be a bit of a problem since the DVD drive on this machine malfunctioned.
