I was facing this problem and the problem was being fixed by simply installing "linux-backports-modules-alsa-2.6.31-20-generic" Package from Synaptic Package Manager .. Presently my Kernel version on my system is Linux 2.6.31-20-generic ... Before instaling "linux-backports-modules- alsa-2.6.31-20-generic" I tried my hands on "linux-backports-modules- alsa-karmic-generic " whose version was 2.6.31.21.34 but it worked on my system in fixing the problem but It killed my Wifi .. So I removed this package and tried with "linux-backports-modules-alsa-2.6.31-20-generic" and it fixed all my problem .. and Now it is working normally ..
