After installing the mainline kernel from here:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/current/
the problem still persists - 60 seconds after boot, the crash appears.

I'm not 100% sure but that probably means the needs-upstream-testing tag can be 
removed - maybe someone else should confirm first?
Are most people with the bug running the netbook edition?  I know mine (eeePC 
1005HA) has some hardware issues with the microphone and pulse audio - I'm 
using pavumeter and pavucontrol to shut off one of the microphone channels.  I 
could try reverting to the default installation but at the moment I need the 
use of the microphone.  (It seems like a sound problem from the bug description)
