It died all three ways.  However, this time it did not crash my X
session, and provided a dialog saying it crashed, with the checkmark and
X.  It also showed a small piece of a window where the dock should
appear.  I took a screenshot of that.  It was also unhappy about various
modules having been compiled with the earlier version, but that seems
appropriate, and that did not seem to be killing it.

I am attaching the logs that resulted from running the three different
ways.  I can include the screenshot if you want it.

I did not include -l debug.  I can re-run if you want me to. :)
