I think the "normal boot" has happened this time because of a new kernel. On resume it says then kernel version mismatch, not resuming - AFAIK. For me hibernation got fixed today with the 2.6.20-12.19 update. (Thank you!)
Try "sudo /etc/acpi/hibernate.sh" on a real console (ctrl-alt-f1). Maybe there appear some error messages.. btw: we both have reiserfs.
