** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: evolution
+ affects Ubuntu 10.04 Beta
+ and version of indicator-messages:
+ ~$ apt-cache policy indicator-messages
+ indicator-messages:
+ Installed: 0.3.6-0ubuntu1
+ Candidate: 0.3.6-0ubuntu1
+ Version table:
+ *** 0.3.6-0ubuntu1 0
+ 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages
+ 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

- evolution's integration into the indicator applet is a welcome step, as
everyone i ask agrees.
- problem is: when i choose "mail" from the indicator applet drop-down menu, it
opens the overall window of evolution, regardless whether there already is an
open evolution window for e.g. "contacts" or "tasks".
+ and: using Evolution 2.28.3

- reproduce:
- 1. click the envelope (indicator applet icon for messaging services
- 2. select "mail"
- 3. wait until evolution opens
- 4. click the envelope again
- 5. select "contacts"
+ what i expected to happen:
+ after configuring thunderbird as default mailing app in "System > Preferences
> Preferred Applications", i expected it to open upon clicking "Mail" in the
messaging menu of the indicator applet.
+ what happened instead:
+ upon clicking "Mail" in the messaging menu, i was taken to the wrong
application, i.e. Evolution instead of Thunderbird.

- i'm using ubuntu lucid beta, upgraded from karmic
+ further problems:
+ as i repeated this step for "Contacts" from the messaging menu, the same
problem appeared.
+ after the overview windows for "Contacts" and "Mail" had now been opened in
the wrong application, i repeated step 1 (clicked "Mail" from the messaging
menu) which took me to "Contacts" overview in Evolution.
+ wrong app upon click, wrong page within app.
+
+ possible solution path:
+ go by the spec as Omer suggests and quotes in comments 3 and 4:
+ re-launch the mailing application on the correct page respectively.
+
+ this is a network of problems, that involves Evolution Indicator, "Preferred
Applications" and indicator-messages.
+ i will try to further update the description in here, to illustrate the
problem matrix, as i find or file related issues in the other related packages.
+
+ thanks for investing all the energy into this so far!
