Could you please try installing the linux-alsa-driver-
modules-2.6.32-21-generic package from the ubuntu-audio-dev PPA?
http://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-audio-dev/+archive. Once you have installed
that package, please report back as to whether your microphone works.
