I've experienced blocked boot sequences caused by plymouth on servers
with lucid. We really don't need plymouth for servers, and removing the
start section in /etc/init/plymouth.conf fixed our problem perfectly.

I really don't understand why it is considered that plymouth is
mandatory for the boot sequence.

Could there maybe be a replacement package for servers that really don't
need it, which would provide/replace plymouth?

Thank you.
