I haven't run Ubuntu in over a year, in fact the only way I'm running linex at all anymore is inside a virtual machine. this will not help you on the driver issue. The last time I ran ubuntu 2 min after the mouse stopped working the ssytem wanted to pair the wired usb keyboard to the bluetooth receiver. I do not have bluetooth on this system. my friends system did the same to him when he used my logitech v220 mouse on it. on that one it is really hard to "pair" a keyboard that is built into a laptop.

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: after logging in the wireless mouse stops working (no pointer movement, clicking, etc.) in intrepid (8.10), it lasts the longest on the live dvd but since hte updates were installed its operation time is reduced greatly before it stops working.
