@madbiologist - Thank you for your comment. I know I can get a new kernel from that PPA, or compile the latest v4l-dvb device drivers from http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb/ (and in fact, I've done that to fix this problem), but sadly many people I know don't have the skills required to the the same. That is why I'd like to see this particular bug fixed in the standard kernel shipped with Ubuntu.
