Is it definately picking up the Lucid installed version?

Does that fix it?
How about LC_ALL="C" or LANG="C" gwave
Are you using a GTK-> Qt theme engine? I'm aware that the initialisation
of the Qt engine in that instance can reset the LC_NUMERIC erranously.
