If this is the case, one could make the claim, that Dapper servers will
also have this problem as they should be supported until 2011 iirc? The
stable kernel in Dapper is 2.6.15.

On a side note this will affect most Xen and XenServer Server's (which
almost all run 2.6.18) which imho is more than you think. These are also
the systems where i first noticed this issue. I consider Xen to be a
very popular platform for Ubuntu to run on. A lot of VPS hosters would
be able to offer Lucid if this were fixed. Also a lot of VPS hosters do
not allow the user to load a newer kernel in which case it is even more
important that this is fixed.

But I didn't quite understand, will this get rolled out into updates
pretty quickly, so that debootstrap does work? AFAIK debootstrap will
then function as soon as the tar package lands in updates, as it will
use the tar package from updates for the installation.
