I'm running the official debian lenny openvz kernel too and Hardy,
Karmic start fine as guest. Lucid starts too and with the work around
that Stéphane provided the network and file system are OK, but the
system doesn't go into runlevel 2. I know that there's no such thing as
runlevel 2 anymore so I'm referring to the fact that the scripts in
/etc/init.d/rc2.d are not executed.

Anybody else had success with this?

I couldn't figure out how to debug upstart since I'd need to start init
with --debug, but simply can't do that in OpenVZ or at least I don't
know how to.

Any idea on debugging?

As a side note for others. I had to patch the /etc/init/ssh.conf script
and comment out the "oom never" line since you can't adjust the OOM in
an OpenVZ guest.
