Public bug reported:

It would be good to configure computers without sound cards (or
incompatible soundcards... in my case) to use the snd-dummy driver. In
this way, sound & video aplications will run despite of no sound card. I
haven't seen any distro with this "feature". The only problem I see
would be a) the memory consumed by the modules and b) we should give the
user a warning, or this will be a source of complaint (or more bugs :).
