The first part is already implemented. mplayer-nogui is a transitional
package that depends on mplayer.
The mplayer package could recommend mplayer-gui, but then new
installations of mplayer would pull mplayer-gui. I see no way to update
the mplayer package to mplayer + mplayer-gui package. Therefore I mark
this bug a won't fix. Please reopen the bug report if you find a way to
implement this upgrade path without affecting new installations.
