I'm a beta tester for U 10.04, so it is possible my upgrade schedule has
screwed up something in testing.
I worked around the problem by removing the Indicator Applet from the
Panel, killing indicator-sound-service, and adding the Indicator Applet
back to the panel.
Please, future testers, try not killing sound service first. Does
removing I-A and re-adding it fix the problem altogether? This might be
useful to know.
